Adrienne Kennedy, Austin
Adrienne Kennedy, a retired educator/researcher, is the Immediate Past President of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, after her 2020 appointment to serve in this newly-created IPP position on the Executive Committee of NAMI’s national board. She also serves on the board of NAMI Central Texas. Prior to her years of volunteer commitment with NAMI, Adrienne was a research associate and doctoral candidate at The University of Texas at Austin, College of Education. After decades of family experiences with mental health issues and mental illnesses among five generations, including those with dual diagnoses and justice involvement, Adrienne now focuses her efforts on mental health education and qualitative research in promising practices for improving outcomes in early identification and interventions, community care, advances in the justice system and re-entry. In addition to NAMI board leadership, Adrienne is active as a national and a state trainer for NAMI signature programs for families, as well as those for educators and providers.
