Tom Mitchell

Tom Mitchell is the Director of Harris County Jail Diversion Services at the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD and was previously the Executive Director of U.S.VETS Houston. He served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Mitchell earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Houston, and a Masters degree in Counseling from Sam Houston State University. He has advanced certification in trauma and debriefing, and is a licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. Prior to joining U.S.VETS, Mr. Mitchell worked in the public mental health system for 30 years. He was Director of the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, the PATH Homeless Program and the Assertive Community Treatment Teams for Harris County. In addition to his work at U.S.VETS, Mr. Mitchell serves as a board member for Healthcare for the Homeless Houston. He also acts as a consultant for the HPD/MHMRA Crisis Intervention Response Team.
