Trina Ita, Austin

Trina Ita is the deputy executive commissioner for Behavioral Health Services at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. She is responsible for the statewide policy and delivery of community-based services and supports for people with behavioral health conditions.

Ita has spent 13 years supporting and directing various behavioral health programs at HHSC and the Department of State Health Services. Most recently, Ita served as chief of the Office of Behavioral Health Strategy at the Department of Family and Protective Services.

During her time at HHSC, Ita has served as deputy associate commissioner of the Office of Mental Health Coordination and associate commissioner of the Mental Health and Substance Use Programs department. In the latter role, she oversaw the full continuum of care for mental health, substance use, recovery, prevention and disaster behavioral health services.

Ita is a licensed professional counselor with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tuskegee University and a master’s degree in community agency counseling from Kean University. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies.
